Yesterday at work I started feeling really sick. I could feel a cold coming on and my stomach was killing me. I sneezed probably 100 times at work, and I'm not even joking. The commute was successful and I made it home. When I got home Scott gave me some medicine, and warned me it would knock me out. I felt like it was working and didn't feel tired until all of a sudden I was on the couch and fell asleep around 8:30. I woke up and hurried to bed and fell right to sleep. I continued to sleep until about 6:30 am when I woke up.
I decided to get up and get ready since that usually makes me feel better. I got ready and headed off to work (thought about calling in sick but didn't want to waste vacation days). I got to the subway station and saw waited for the train. I initially got onto the C train, but the A came, so I decided to switch trains. Right when I got on the train, I sat down and smelled something funny. I soon realized that it smelled like something was burning, and decided to get off the next stop and get on the C when it got there. While I waited for the C, I noticed MTA workers and a police officer trying to figure out what was causing the smell. The C came, and as I was getting on they announced that the A train was no longer in service, so everyone from that train packed on... It seemed like forever on the train, I ended up getting to my transfer stop 15 minutes later than usual. I transferred to my train and was freaking out because it was looking like I was going to be late. I get to the stop right by my office and get off having to climb the monstrous escalator while I felt I didn't have any energy. I made it to work and clocked in at 9:34 which is "late" for work since work starts at 9:30, but they give us until 9:37 to not be considered late, which saved me. I clocked in "on time! barely." Now the story doesn't end here.
I start working, and doing the usual morning routine and at about 10:15 I decided to eat my breakfast that I had packed--lemon yogurt. This sounded really good to me, because it was cold, and I thought it would feel good on my throat. I started eating it and it was really good until I noticed a clump in the yogurt I was eating. I then looked down at my yogurt and realized there was mold in it! I throw the container into my garbage and start spitting it out. I start freaking out, I yelled, "yuck, I'm going to be sick!" Then I ran into the bathroom. I started to wash out my mouth, scrubbing my tongue to get it out. I run into the kitchen and grab half of a bagel to take a few bites to get the taste out of my mouth. I come back to my pod and explain what happened to the 2 people who sit next to me. They just look at me like, "and the problem is..." No sympathy whatsoever.
So not only am I sick, tired, was almost late, now I have consumed moldy yogurt... I'm ready to call a do over...
It's not even 11:00 am yet.

Subway Pro Now
One year ago I could have never given directions to anyone on the subway...
Yesterday I saw a lady on the E train that looked so confused. I asked her where she needed to go and figured out she was on the wrong train so I gave her instructions and told her to get off and wait for the correct train.
Then today on the way home I saw a girl looking at the subway map on the train and seemed stressed. I asked where she was going and told her which stop she needed to transfer at without even thinking about it. It just seemed like second nature.
I'm pretty proud of myself:)

Be suspicious of empty subway cars....
Here is a survival tip if you ever come to New York City....
Yesterday morning, I was waiting for the A train to come to take me to work. Of course during peak commuting times the subway cars are usually full. I saw the train approaching and noticed that there was one that was pretty empty. I ran to get into that car, and it took me only 1 second to realize why there was no one on the train. There was a homeless guy with all of his stuff, and he stunk soooo bad! I ran out of the car along with probably 30 other people to get into another subway car. Thankfully I made it and enjoyed my commute with minimal bad smells. I was thinking about it and I felt bad for that guy and the reaction I'm sure he gets all day, but I just couldn't imagine sitting for 20 minutes with that strong odor. I just about gagged being in there for 2 seconds. This has happened a few times, and I always think, maybe it's just an empty car....but lesson learned, it never is.

I have a love/hate relationship with the E train...today it is a hate
I usually leave to go to work around 8:35, and get to work about 10-15 minutes early. Today was a day like any other day... I got ready, left my apartment at 8:35, walked up to the subway stop, got there in time for the A train, got on the train, and stayed on until 42nd. I got off the train there to transfer to the E.
Side note: Usually I barely miss the E train so I wait about 30 seconds for the next one to come. I usually love the E train. It is so clean and new compared to any other train I've been on. There is a lit up list of the stops, and automated announcements telling you the stop it is and which stop is next. I feel like I'm in a different world when I get on the E after riding the A.
Today was a different day... When I got to the E---5 minutes passed, 10 minutes passed, 15 minutes past without so much as an announcement. There were a few C trains coming through but no E's. Finally there was an announcement saying there was a stalled E train up ahead so there would be delays (obviously). I didn't know of an alternate route because I only know 1 way to get to work (I need to look at the other options). I am terrible with directions and figured if I tried to get on another train or walk that I would completely get lost and it would take even more time. Finally the E train did come and I had 2 minutes until I was supposed to be at work so I knew there was no way I was going to be on time. At our work they give us a 7 minute leeway without being considered late, but even that didn't give me enough time. Once on the train it took the usual amount of time to get to my stop. I ran up the escalator, into the building, through security, up another escalator, and to the elevators going up to the 37th floor. By the time I made it into my office to clock in I was 2 minutes after the 7 extra minutes that we get. I was late, and had to use personal time to cover it....What a way to start the day. Good thing tomorrow is Friday!
And that.... is why I am hating on the E train today. I don't know if it will regain my trust to take me home today...we'll see.
P.S. When I got to work I looked on the MTA website to see what trains had delays and it said the E train was having good service this morning. Ugh....Thank you MTA!

I had a dream...on the subway?!
On my way home from work yesterday I was super tired. I decided I would just, "rest my eyes." Of course that always results in falling asleep for me. I began to have a crazy dream that I don't remember now because it didn't make any sense. The only thing is hearing them announce, "This is 145th street..." That was the announcement that made me jump and run off the subway yesterday. 145th street is where I get off and transfer to another train either the A or the C. I was so close to missing my stop which scared me, the other thing is I woke up freaked out that someone could have taken my stuff without me knowing.Moral of the story: I'm going to try to stay awake on the subway. Sometimes it is just so hard when it feels like your mother is rocking you to sleep...
I know I'm not the only one who has fallen asleep on the subway though:)
